A Chance Reunion

Chapter 1

It was 98 degrees. Afterall it was Savannah in the summer.

She looked cool, crisp and in control in her simple white cotton dress.

He looked hot.

He was visiting relatives down the street. She had heard he was. She remembered him fondly from elementary school before he had to move away.

She just happened to be sitting on the porch when he passed by. As he walked by, he looked up and was smitten.

She smiled.

He recognized this lovely woman from the sweet young girl she used to be. Apparently, she was home for the Summer from Mary Baldwin.

She invited him to visit with her on the wide front porch. The ceiling fans were a relief. He looked more comfortable. Offering him a few refreshments was the ONLY the hospitable thing she could do.

He spooned an interesting looking red condiment onto a water cracker. He thought it must be a jam of some type.

His eyes expressed everything. “Have you any idea how good this is?”

She smiled. Of course, she did.

“I mean it is delicious! How can your momma take plain old tomatoes and spices and make something so wonderful? It’s Southern, Sweet and Spicy.” Little did he know he was describing her as well.

Thankfully, her family passed the recipe down by word of mouth for generations. “You know, you ought to bottle this”. She smiled again.

“So, tell me, how long will you be in town?”, she asked.
