Down the Street

Chapter 2

His cousin’s house was just down the street from Addison’s.

As he walked the short hop, Frankie hollered out to him.

“Preston! How was your trip from Charleston?”

Preston Hartwell had a look about him. Self-assured, handsome, smart as a whip and could charm the wallpaper from the wall.

He was the third generation of his family to attend the Citadel. He was studying engineering and was planning to relocate to Savannah after graduation to work with his uncle and cousin in their firm.

"It was fine, Thanks just a short hop."

“Here Let me help you with your suitcase. Mom has made some of her homemade lemonade and something to snack on until supper. It is made with the Tomato Conserve that Addy’s mom makes."

"I was just down at her house! She had some tomato conserve we had on crackers. It was incredible."

Aunt Margery brought out some miniature tartlets filled with goat cheese and topped with the Tomato Conserve. They had a bit of chopped green onions on the top. Preston bit into one.

Again, he experienced an incredible taste sensation that layered from sweet to savory.

Preston thought, back in Savannah for only an hour and twice had Tomato Conserve!

What a welcome home.
